The words epiphyte and lithophyte describe growth habits. An epiphyte can grow on another plant for physical support without being a parasite; a lithophyte grows on or among rock. The beginner mistake is converting that into “water every seven days.” A calendar cannot see your pot size, room temperature, light level, airflow, season, or root condition. A decorative outer pot that traps runoff can turn a well-drained inner pot into a chronically wet root environment.
