Kew describes the species as an epiphyte growing primarily in the wet tropical biome. Its species profile also records plants growing on tree trunks, branches, and rocks in lowland tropical rain forest. That ecological fact is more useful than a generic “orchids like humidity” slogan because it explains why the roots need both moisture and air.
One naming caution matters. The accepted taxon on this page is Phalaenopsis amabilis (L.) Blume. Historical literature contains other names and later combinations that look similar.
